Missed a Small Detail

Yesterday left a heavy feeling in my chest. I was overwhelmed—and deeply upset with myself. It happened again. Another small mistake. But one that mattered.

I’ve always been quick at what I do. Piping Design is fast-paced and unforgiving, but I usually thrive in that urgency. My bosses often commend my speed and precision. And yet, this detail—this one tiny oversight—slipped past me again.

In our industry, every line matters. A single misstep can ripple through a project, consuming time, energy, and—sometimes—dignity. The correction may be simple, but the impact lingers. Humiliation. Self-doubt. The harsh whisper that maybe… you’re slipping.

My project leader always tells me, “It’s okay to make mistakes. But don’t make it a habit.” I’ve held onto those words, but they hurt a little more each time I hear them.

Truth is, I hate this pattern. Hate how I keep missing the very details I swore I'd always catch. It’s not just work.

Last time, I missed my flight from CDO to Manila. I had misread the schedule—thought it was rescheduled to 7 PM. After a four-hour bus ride, I arrived at the airport only to find it had already left. Thankfully, many others missed it too… but that didn’t make it easier.

So today, I made a vow. A new mantra.

Pause. Breathe. Check. Don’t rush.

Because finishing quickly isn’t the goal anymore. I want to be respected, not just fast. To be admired for how well I finish—not how soon. To aim high, with grace.

And if I must make mistakes, let them be gentle ones—greeted not with shame, but with growth.
